In The Name of God

From Patti, “ . . . the kidnapping and murder of . . . Atwar Bahjat, elicited sadness, regret, maybe resignation; another death in Iraq.
Now the murderers have provided the world with a film of their incomprehensible depravity . . . Some of our leaders will argue that this is the barbarism that we are in Iraq to fight. More of us see that it is our occupation of Iraq that is allowing barbarism to flourish.

A search on technorati.com "Atwar Bahjat" results in a listing of discussions of her torture and murder: Some see it as a justification for the Iraq war and some as another argument against the war. As far as news coverage, this story seems to be in the same silent category as the deaths and photos of bloody Iraqi children. It is unspeakably horrific.
