Progress & Paradise Lost

"As an educator, I would like to express my strong opposition to any extension of Eighth Street that would negatively impact Northwest Arkansas Community College's Living Nature Laboratory. With its pond, post oak stand and small area of savannah, this area provides students access to tiny patches of ecosystems that are rapidly disappearing from this area. The idea of destroying such a uniquely accessible outdoor classroom to build a highway is absolutely abhorrent. Bentonville and the state of Arkansas have other alternatives. There is no need to destroy the Living Laboratory."

Thanks for spreading the Word Jonah.

Funny enough, I just read an article that said that in order to get people to really take notice about what is being done to our natural resources and nature itself, we first have to get them interested in NATURE. People are all too often bored with nature's slow-moving pace, thus we tend to disregard its importance. It was a good article. Perhaps if we focused more on nature programs rather than today's typical reality shows that tend to bring out the worst in its participants, then maybe we would take more interst in nature, thus taking into account its importance in our lives. When will survival win out over greed?
