Barry Bonds Is Arrogant, Bellicose, and Black.
If he had been humble, friendly, and white, would he be catching this flack? I don't know the answer to that, but I suspect that we would be more forgiving. My father and many of his generation could not accept that Roger Marris hit more single season home runs than Babe Ruth, asterisk or no asterisk, nor could he accept Hank Aaron’s hitting more total. They were both comparatively nice guys. The truth is that comparing records across generations is a useless pursuit. Barry Bonds can’t accurately be compared to Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth or even Ty Cobb, an arrogant, bellicose, and white member of the Hall of Fame. Bonds has recently been the best player in baseball, with or without steroids. Give him his due.

If there's any question about Barry Bonds, witness Mark McGuire. He faxed his retirement announcement to ESPN and went to play golf. Locals felt abandoned but he still has a freeway
named for him. But he's not black, so...
Sorry Virg, you're missing everyone's point.
Sorry, Mark you didn't deserve 70, even though "I love ya man.". Keep the Bud. More than Maris, Mark and now BB deserves Drug Games asteriks.
BUT, the REAL truth has LONG been overlooked, and undoubtedly will be ignored. Short right field fence, a stadium designed to do one thing break the record with a big splash. BB's forthcoming record is as shallow as the wall he's been hitting them over. Forget being bellicose, arrogant, or anything else that is true. The truth is, he just plain doesn't deserve squat.
