Augusta, the Masters, and Golf In General - What Happened To Your Noble Roots?

“Golf is a pussy game-Just like American football.” Seamus O’Lingle
It is compared to the day when Setanta’s sliotar found its mark. There are, however, even today, true traditions that haven't abandoned Cuchulainn’s spirit as golf has done. Virgil salutes the noble lads and lasses who carry on the real traditon with camogie, hurling, and shinty.

By glorifying these more violent sports, aren’t you encouraging the same type of macho behavior that you condemn in the post below about the Duke lacrosse team?

No.

I disagree with Mr. O'Lingle. He wouldn’t talk that way about football if he had seen our Oysters play last fall. Our last game against John Hay U. was a fine football game. They played a fine football game, and we played a fine football game, so when it all was said and done, at the end of the day, it was a fine football game. What’s more, we did it with a bunch of young freshmen who have the whole rest of their lives in front of them.

Coach Art Turf has had some fine football teams at Tech. I certainly did not mean to be critical of him, his fine football teams, and the fine football seasons he and the Oysters have had.

Then again a Shorty Sommers only comes along once in a lifetime. The Six Pac has rarely seen the likes of him. As for EIEIO, Coach McDonald is in danger of being fired if he doesn't pick up a safety here, a tailback there, and everywhere a lineman during this year's recruiting season.

McDonald is a fine coach, but I'll bet you a Falls City beer that EIEIO will buy the farm if it plays "INEPT Tech. I-N-E-P-T! Inept Tech! 2-4-6-8, who do we appreciate! Oysters, oysters, raw, raw, raw."
