Your Hoary Pink Poontang (the picture Virg, the picture) will be left at your cousin Jim's tomorrow. Maybe he can enlighten me as to the names of a couple of your photos. Glad to see you have an aesthetic side!

That picture was taken without my knowledge or consent. How did you get it?
I cannot reveal the names of the photos until the contest is over. Just give um your best shot. Use a fake name if you're afraid of being embarassed.

The 2nd down on the right is a trillium which also grows wild in the Northwest. Is there a monetary reward for identifying more? I don't want to walk across the room to the bookcase for nothing.

I commend you for your effort. If your answer is correct, I commend you for your knowledge and/or luck. I would not taint this noble site nor insult my readers with a monetary reward. Virgtue is it’s own reward.

Virgil owes Cathy an apology. It is hereby given along with many thanks. She appears to know even more about wild flowers than Virgil (knows about wild flowers). She pointed out that the pictures posted for the (Here’s a hint for contestants) spice bush and hoary puccoon were not the Buffalo varieties. These have been corrected. She also explained that “Hoary Pink Poontang” is just another name for a variety of the hoary puccoon and that her comment had nothing to do with any alleged improper photos of Virgil. Hats off to you Cathy. You are hereby inducted into the elite Virg n’ Mary Hall of Fame.

Hmm...
Some of these I only know by scientific phligum...
After those that have already been identified...
the Puccoon & Spiceberry, there follows: Mutant Reddish Treeum Growthus, Rue Anemone, Toothwort, aforementioned Trillium, Queeriollous Mysterioso, Pussy's Toes, Cleft Phlox, Dutchmen's Breeches, Bloodroot, and Trout Lily.

Cathy:
J.S. got the Mutant Reddish Treeum Growthu and Queeriollous Mysterioso. Are any of the others correct? I noticed he copied the trillium from anonymous.

I did notice that J.S. did qualify his Trillium listing as "aforementioned" and as it was not aformentioned in his entry, one might assume he was refering to another's.

Virgil said...

It is, in fact, a trillium. Now, if you're so smart, tell us if J.S. is right about the Mutant Reddish Treeum Growthu and Queeriollous Mysteriosogive, and if so, tell us the common names.

How come I replied to your email and it was boomeranged? I only wanted to point out the rockhopers are probably crackheads, whereas rockhoppers might recognize, say, dutchman's breeches

I won't comment on the rest of your comment. I can't even remember it.
