Speaking of West Virginians, my family never missed the Real McCoys when I was a kid. I wished that they had been from Arkansas. When I’d get irritated with my Dad’s advice, he'd parrot Grand Pappy Amos’s line to Luke, “I’m telling you this so you won’t make the same mistakes I would have made when I was your age if I hadn’t been a dang sight smarter than you are.”

I can see yo Daddy with his pipe hanging from his mouth right now speaking those words ever so kindly to you as a lad.......I luved him so and thought he was the best! He reminded me of Bing Crosby!
I recall him explaining to this new Arkansan why school was called off when it snows, even just a little. "Why, you can't imagine the number of miles our buses travel; over roads that aren't paved." in that kind voice. It felt like he was thankful I'd asked. Nice man.
I never knew your pappy, but never trust a McCoy.
