Again, let me comment using my book 365 Saints. One day St. Teresa was trying to cross a storm-swollen stream in a small cart, the donkey balked, and she ended up drenched and covered with mud. Looking to heaven, she said, "God if this is the way you treat your friends, no wonder you have so few of them!" For her, God wasn't some remote, distant entity but an everyday friend. She spoke with God about every aspect of her life, including reluctant donkeys. Her comment was not in disrespect. She believed that God can't be removed from the everyday occurrences of life. If we only talk with God on formal occasions (I would add, like in church), then soon we won't be talking with God at all. She was likely afraid of very little.

How is it that girls can be saints, but not priests?
Great question, Helen! Anybody got an answer?
