Methodists and The First Full-Blooded Jew to Appear on the Grand Ole Opry.

Mary told me that the Methodists had a person of the Jewish faith speak at their Sunday School class yesterday. Though the Methodists don’t yet allow gay clergy nor allow gays to get married, they are a lot more tolerant, inquisitive, and inclusive than most.
It’s been 35 years since the Reverend Jimmy Snow introduced Kinky Friedman as "the first full-blooded Jew to appear on the Grand Ole Opry." It was a big step then, but would go unnoticed and unmentioned today. Maybe, someday, a black man or a woman will be able run for office without it being a big deal. People like the Methodists will help make it happen. They’ll keep getting better and more inclusive. And, yes, there are Buddhists, Baptists, Presbyterians, Atheists, Muslims, and Rev. Snows who will help too. My mind is just on the Methodists today.

Dad was a good Methodist even if he wouldn't play football for them.

United Methodists ARE inclusive...open, accepting, supportive of all persons, denying all semblance of discrimination. We, tho', like other denominations, still struggle w/ issues related to human sexuality. We DO believe that "homosexual persons no less than heterosexual persons are individuals of sacred worth."
Our general rules for living are to do no harm, to do good, and to stay in love with God.
UM's "respect the diversity of opinions held by conscientious persons of faith. Wesley followed this approach: 'In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity.'

Works for me. Thanks for thinking of the UM's.

I'm afraid to ask what the Methodists think of cross species sexuality. The Presbyterians at home do na understand and are quite judgmental
