I warned Yellow Hair that the Souix was a great nation and to treat um fair & square. He didn't listen, and he died. He had about as much goddamn sence as you George. This man you ridicule is not only human, but is an American Indian. You got no right to treat him like this ain't his land too.

Media Matters UPDATE: Matthews acknowledged Allen's mother's North African ties while discussing "macaca" controversy link to Media Matters
"Summary: Many media figures who have reported Sen. George Allen's claim not to know what the term "macaca" means have omitted the fact that Allen's mother grew up in North Africa. However, on the August 16 edition of MSNBC's Hardball, Chris Matthews acknowledged the role her background may have played in Allen's use of the word, which, as a racial slur, reportedly originated in North Africa."
