Benedict XVI-The George W. Bush of Popes.

The Pope, in his in his inerrant wisdom, says condoms could actually make the AIDS epidemic worse. "He said AIDS 'could not be overcome through the distribution of condoms, which even aggravates the problems'. Instead, the Pope favours abstinence and a moral attitude toward sex." Pope Benedict says condoms make AIDS epidemic worse by Anna Hipsley

It should be no surprise that one in the business of selling mythology would not excell in real world analysis.

According to the CDC properly made latex condoms properly used are nearly 100% effective in preventing the transmission of AID/HIV and greatly reduce the risk of most sexually transmitted disease.

If Pope logic is that the fear of disease will reduce the occurence of sex between unpaired persons sufficiently that the incidence of disease will be lower than if people used condoms and still had sex, this would require such sex to decline more than 99%, which is to say stop occuring.

AIDS is here. Are people still having sex?

Well obviously that is not correct, so maybe we need to go the other direction to understand Pope logic. Maybe the potential for safe sex will cause there to be so much more sex that even though condoms are largely effective there will still be more disease. If condoms are 99% effective, sex between unpaired couples will need to increase by ninty nine time in order for the frequency of sex to overcome the benefits of condom use.

The truth is that the church and like minded organizations are in the way of dealing with this disease and many other sex related problems, like population control for one.
